Which size do I need?
Every Nu-Rail® fitting locks onto the pipe with set screws, and tightening them takes a single hex (Allen) key. Any good hex key in the right size works: the L-key already in your toolbox, a hex bit in your driver, or one from the hardware store.
Don't have one? We recommend Klein Tools' Journeyman™ T-handle. The cushioned grip and extra leverage make tightening a whole project's worth of set screws easy, and it's built to last for the next one.
Klein Tools Journeyman™ T-handle hex keys, in the two sizes Nu-Rail® fittings use. The soft, grippy T-handle gives you the leverage to seat set screws properly, and the 4" steel blade is short enough for tight spots between rails and walls. The size is laser-etched on the blade, so the two never get mixed up in your tool bag.
Fits the 3/8" set screws on nearly every fitting: tees, elbows, crosses, couplings, plugs, and the pipe sockets on flanges.
Fits the smaller 5/16" set screws some base and wall flanges use where the post meets the flange. Add this one if your project mounts posts to a floor, deck or wall.
Turn each set screw until it touches the pipe, then give it one more full turn. Hollaender's spec is about 16–17 ft-lbs on 3/8" set screws and about 14 ft-lbs on the 5/16" set screws at a base flange.
